Spanish artist, Luis Quiles, also known as Gunsmithcat on DeviantArt.com portrays the uglier sides of our society in his latest project. In this series Quiles challenges a range of controversial issues varying from censorship, corruption, sexism, homophobia, vanity and violence. His edgy and bold style, relatable subjects, paired with his artistic talents and daring nerve make you question our modern world.
Below are just a few exerts from his expansive series. Whether it's force feeding our youth with cheap fast food, the social media craze, financial money sharks, or the inability to voice ones opinion without consequence, each one targets a specific theme within society. The messages can't be ignored and each is raw, honest and scandalous.
It's hard to look at each illustration and not reflect on our current society. It's even harder to not become inspired and motivated to not contributes to these themes within society through one's own art and design. Why add to the garbage that floats around this world. Why tell our children that it's okay to pay $1.50 for deep fried crap? Why should we tell girls to use their bodies to get what they want? Why would I want future generations to be attached to their mobile devices and their reflections?
Luis Quiles' project is a nice, fresh breath of honest air. We all know these problems and themes exist but it's refreshing when someone slaps you in the face with the cold truth, forcing your eyes open to the darker sides of humankind.
